Daylight saving time ends soon in Illinois. Here’s how early it will start to get dark
This weekend, Illinois residents will have to set their clocks back by one hour, marking the end of daylight saving time for the year.
Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, making the sun appear to set even earlier than before.
In Belleville Saturday, the day before the time change, the sun will set at 5:56 p.m. After the time change Sunday, the sun will appear to set an hour earlier, at 4:55 p.m, according to Norway-based online clock Time and Date.
Daylight saving time was first made a legal requirement by the Uniform Time Act of 1966, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports. The practice has since been the subject of some controversy with lawmakers, with state and federal legislators trying several times to get rid of it.
Today, only two states do not practice daylight saving: Hawaii and Arizona. However, the Navajo Nation portion of Arizona continues the practice.
