Looking for a new job this spring? The Illinois state government is hiring for more than 30 open positions in the metro-east in a variety of fields.

Unemployment saw a slight decline from 4.9 to 4.8% in the state in February, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rate had previously held steady at 4.9% from October to January. February’s statewide unemployment rate is preliminary and may be revised, however.

The greater St. Louis metropolitan area’s unemployment rate is lower than Illinois’ rate, but increased from 3.2 to 4.3% from December to January, the most recent month for which data is available. These rates are also preliminary and may be updated later in April, the Census Bureau reports.

The Illinois state government is hiring for more than 400 positions statewide as of April 2. Here’s what to know about positions available in the metro-east and across Illinois.

Family and community resource center administrator

Agency: Department of Human Services

Wage: $9,500 to $10,600 per month

Location: East St. Louis

Application deadline: Monday, April 7

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skill, and mental development” equivalent to completion of four years of college and three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a health or human services organization, the listing says. Additional preferred qualifications apply.

Job responsibilities include, according to the listing:

  • “Serves as Administrator of a Family & Community Resource Center (FCRC) in the Division of Family & Community Services (FCS), Department of Human Services (DHS).

  • Serves as full-line supervisor.

  • Reviews and evaluates reports of casework activities including error reports, audit findings and quality assurance reviews.

  • Interprets, explains and implements new policies and procedures or changes in existing policies and procedures.

Location: Collinsville

Minimum qualifications for this position include completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum or two years of engineering experience, as well as a driver’s license, according to the listing.
