Illinois spot among the top mid-size campgrounds in North America, report finds
A family friendly Illinois recreation spot is one of “Top Mid-Size Campgrounds in 2026,” according to a new analysis.
North American campground booking platform Campspot announced its slate of award-winners Feb. 10 in several categories, including mid-size, large, unique and top campgrounds in the U.S. and more.
Campspot named Starved Rock Family Campground, in Utica, Ill., No. 4 in its ranking of the best mid-size campgrounds in North America.
“Perfectly balanced in size, these mid-sized campgrounds provide great amenities and a welcoming atmosphere,” Campspot’s analysis reads.
Starved Rock Family Campground is located less than 7 miles from Starved Rock State Park, which has been named among the best state parks in the nation for great value stays.
Visiting Starved Rock Family Campground
Starved Rock Family Campground welcomes families and dogs, and offers a variety of amenities to guests.
The campground features a camp store, a seasonal outdoor pool, a playground, bathhouse, dog park, onsite laundry, an internet cafe, an indoor escape room and more.
There are several accomodation options at Starved Rock Family Campground, including full hookup RV sites, tent sites, a “glamping” tent or a cabin. Pets are not allowed in the glamping tent or cabin.
Reservations can be made online, and pricing depends on dates and booking type. For a July weekend, RV sites were listed for between $57.16 and $79.82 per night, depending on the type of RV site, while tent sites were $44 per night.
Starved Rock Family Campground has a rating of 4.7 stars out of 5 on Campspot’s website, with 157 reviews.
The Campspot awards methodology considers guest ratings, reservation data, park features and the quality of marketplace listing pages, according to the booking company.
“The award-winning parks have earned distinction for their exceptional guest satisfaction and unique campground offerings,” Campspot says.
The News-Democrat has contacted Starved Rock Family Campground for comment about the Campspot Awards recognition.
What other campgrounds were named among the best?
The other four sites to make Campspot’s ranking of the top five mid-size campgrounds in North America included Whistler RV Park and Campground in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, in the No. 1 spot, Munising Tourist Park Campground in Munising, Michigan, in second place, Ucluelet Campground in Ucluelet, British Columbia, in third and Margaritaville RV Resort at Lanier Islands in Buford, Georgia, in fifth place.
