Historic St. Louis church, with a hot tub on the bell tower, could be yours for $1.4M
A historic, Gothic-style church up for sale in St. Louis has it all – rich hardwood floors, beautiful stained glass windows, even a hot tub on top of the bell tower.
It can be all yours for an asking price of $1,425,000, according to its active listing on Zillow.com.
This 7,866-square-foot home was originally built in 1901. In that year, William McKinley was sworn in as the 25th president (only to be assassinated six months later), J.P. Morgan incorporated U.S. Steel as the first billion-dollar corporation and American businessman William S. Harley drew up plans for his first motorcycle prototype.
St. Louis itself was quickly becoming a hub for hundreds of carmakers. By 1929, it hosted close to 10% of all American automakers, about half of which built cars exclusively in the city.
Just a few years after the church’s construction, St. Louis captured the world’s attention in 1904 when it hosted the World’s Fair and the Olympics, becoming the first non-European city to host the games.
Since its construction 121 years ago, the church, located at 2501 Clifton Ave., has undergone a major transformation.
According to its listing, it’s currently being used as a bed and breakfast with five rooms available to rent, each with their own en-suite luxury bathrooms.
The church itself is perched atop the third highest point in the city, according to its listing, and only about 12 minutes from downtown west St. Louis.
On the building’s main floor, you’ll find warm, oak floors, a grand staircase and stained glass windows depicting Jesus Christ holding a lamb. The centerpiece here is a full kitchen open to the surrounding living spaces.
Down a level, there’s an owner’s suite with a catering kitchen, a full bathroom, recreation and hobby rooms and storage space.
If you ascend the bell tower, you can take in the views from the comfort of a hot tub.
This home also includes off-street parking and a parking pad, along with patios and gardens fit for Sunday brunch.
