A 74-year-old man is accused of shooting at his daughter, then shooting his 19-year-old granddaughter in the head, Missouri police say.

The grandfather, identified by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as Pierre Irving, had been staying at his daughter’s apartment before the Oct. 21 incident, police said.

Irving’s daughter was arguing with her father about “him keeping his space cleaned in the sharing living area,” according to a probable cause statement. Irving, who police said was drinking and became angry, then went to his room to get a gun.

Irving returned to the living room and shot at his daughter, missing her, police said. Then, according to the court documents, he shot his granddaughter in the head.

Police said Irving was seen in Ring doorbell footage passing the gun off to a neighbor. He was later taken into custody.

The granddaughter was hospitalized, listed in “critical unstable” condition, officers said. Police said in the Oct. 22 probable cause statement the bullet remained lodged in her head.

Irving was charged with two counts each of armed criminal action and first-degree assault, court records show.

He was jailed without bond.
