Winter weather advisory expanded to include metro-east

With snow in the forecast, the National Weather Service on Saturday afternoon expanded its winter weather advisory to include the metro-east.

The advisory expires at midnight Saturday and includes St. Clair, Madison and Monroe counties.

Earlier in the day, the advisory covered areas west of St. Louis in central Missouri but did not include the metro-east.

Snow fell for a short time in downtown Belleville after a sleet fell for a brief period early Saturday evening.

The forecast calls for less than a half inch of snow on Saturday night. There is an 80% chance of precipitation for the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency announced late Saturday afternoon that the St. Clair County Highway Department is pretreating roads.
