Possible overnight snowfall total takes a jump forward

The possible nighttime snow accumulation is 1 to 3 inches overnight, the National Weather Service reported Thursday.

On Friday, look for a mixed bag of rain and snow. Here’s the latest timeline from the weather service:

Rain and snow before 3 p.m.

Rain between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Rain and snow after 5 p.m.

The winter weather advisory for the metro-east expires at 6 p.m. Friday.

Saturday’s forecast calls for a high of 37 with cloudy skies.

Residents in Belleville and the surrounding area woke up Thursday morning to find cars and sidewalks glazed over with ice. The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reported spotty ice on roads, especially bridges and overpasses.

In Illinois, the area under the winter weather advisory includes Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Fayette, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Randolph, St. Clair and Washington counties.

An earlier forecast said the area could get 1 inch of snow overnight.

The Weather Channel described the storm as “slow moving” and it is expected to hit the Northeast this weekend.
