Snow appears headed for southwestern Illinois. When will it hit and how much will fall?
Is accumulating snow headed for the metro-east? As of Tuesday afternoon, it appears that way.
Fred Glass, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service of St. Louis, said Tuesday the region likely will get accumulating snow beginning Friday night and continuing into Saturday morning.
Glass added they do not have any gauge on how much snow will fall as of yet. He also noted a shift in the weather track over the past 24 hours that could alter how much snow we see, if any.
“We’ll have to end up seeing where the track ends up being,” Glass said. “The track has made a pretty substantial shift in the last 24 hours. If it continues that way .. it’s very difficult to say how far it’s going to keep shifting.”
Glass said weather models are showing the axis of the heaviest snow being over western Missouri as of Tuesday afternoon.
“We’re looking four days out so it’s still a ways a way. We’ll have to see,” Glass said.
Cold temperatures also will be a factor this weekend, as the projected high Saturday is 31 with a low of 16.
The National Weather Service website recommends keeping plugged into the weather forecast as it develops throughout the week.
