Will winter weather make another appearance in southwest IL this week? Here’s what we know
The metro-east area may see wintry precipitation later this week.
According to The Weather Channel website Sunday morning, the region could get 1-3 inches of snow Friday.
Brad Charboneau, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service of St. Louis, said Sunday morning it’s too early to talk snow amounts but confirmed the area will experience much colder conditions later this week.
After hitting a high of 61 on Thursday, temperatures will plummet Friday, with a low of 19, according to the National Weather Service website.
“As far as Friday, we’re certainly going to get into a much colder pattern toward the end of the week,” Charboneau said. “What that means for wintry precipitation, it’s too early to say. But it will be noticeably colder toward end of the week.”
According to the Accuweather website, the metro-east could see anywhere from a trace to 0.05 inches of ice Friday. The website also shows the possibility of half an inch of snow.
“We are watching for the potential for weather systems late in the week,” Charboneau said. “We can’t rule out any wintry precipitation but I will say ... we’re keeping an eye on that. It’s still too early to say anything with a whole lot of confidence other than it will be getting colder.”
The National Weather Service recommends keeping plugged into the forecast as it develops, www.weather.gov.
