Here’s you can find cooling sites in Belleville, St. Louis area as heat wave continues

With an excessive heat warning advisory in effect and heat index values set to soar to more than 100 degrees this week, Belleville and other local governments are taking action to help residents and visitors alike beat the heat.

The city of Belleville has opened three cooling sites – places any member of the public can visit to cool off, grab a drink and get out of the sun.

Individuals who are unhoused, don’t have air conditioning at home or are simply caught out and about can find a cooling shelter in Belleville near them until 8 p.m. Thursday, when the sites are set to close.

Here’s the sites in Belleville, according to the city’s website, with the hours the buildings are publicly open:

  • Belleville Public Library West Branch, 3414 W. Main St., 618-233-4366. This site is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.
