A cold front pushing into the metro-east will create a chance for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The threat also includes golf ball sized hail and damaging winds over 60 mph, according to Mark Britt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

Britt said storms are expected to enter the St. Louis metro area moving in a southeast direction.

“It will be a slow moving cold front that will be coming in the area,” Britt said.

And the warm weather with an expected high of 91 degrees on Tuesday afternoon “is providing the fuel for the thunderstorms,” he said.

“It looks like we’ll continue to have an active pattern over the week.”

Britt recommends residents keep an eye on the forecast to see if there are severe storms expected for the rest of the week.
