It’ll be roller-coaster week in metro-east weather. Here’s what to expect

The metro-east has been tricked with a fake spring.

The National Weather Service St. Louis charts Sunday’s high at 66 degrees, but that won’t last forever. A small snow dusting may come Sunday night into Monday morning, with Monday’s temperature reaching only into the upper teens, Meteorologist Jayson Gosselin said.

This cold front is expected to move into the Belleville area around 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, bringing a line of showers and thunderstorms with it, Gosselin said. Tornadoes could pop up during this time frame, but are more likely to occur south towards Memphis or east, Gosselin said.

Gosselin said rain may linger and a snow dusting of less than half an inch may occur Sunday night, with snowfall expected to be finished by 4 a.m. Monday, he said. Wind advisories are in place Sunday during the day and night, he said.

He does not anticipate any snowfall would impact Monday morning commutes. Those waiting at the bus stop, however, should bundle up — the wind will make Monday morning feel like zero to 5 degrees. Tuesday will also be cold, Gosselin said.

“People are definitely going to notice that,” Gosselin said. “(Such low temperatures) are quite rare in mid-March.”

Wednesday is expected to be warmer again, with a high near 65, the National Weather Service St. Louis’ website shows.
