Thunderstorms are expected to hit the metro-east early Sunday, meteorologists warn.

Chris Kimble, a meteorologist with the U.S. National Weather Service St. Louis, said Belleville and other metro-east communities will likely see thunderstorms commence a little past midnight.

Kimble does not predict tornadoes and said he does not expect flash flooding. However, there is a small chance that the early-morning thunderstorms will bring damaging winds. Because of this, those who live in structures such as mobile homes that are susceptible to wind damage should assess their risk and plan accordingly, Kimble said.

“The main thing is just to be aware that storms are expected early morning,” Kimble said.

He also recommends that people have multiple ways of receiving warnings.

As of Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service St. Louis’ forecast shows a break in the rain for most of the day Sunday and Monday, with highs around 77 degrees.

Kimble said rain will likely begin again Tuesday and last for a few days. Tuesday is expected to see a high of 82, while Wednesday and Thursday will approach highs of 85, the forecast shows.
