See the artistry behind the art

Thousands of people will spend the next couple days – weather willing – enjoying the exquisite art on display at Art on the Square in Belleville. There are paintings, sculpture, pottery, jewelry – all sorts of fun, quirky, beautiful and unique items from artists who are at the top of their game.

We’d also encourage people to pay attention to the artistry going on in the background and behind the scenes. The picture-perfect setting of the white tents set up around the Public Square and Veterans Memorial Fountain are just the start. Every detail is covered, from the phenomenal hospitality given to the artists down to the fresh coats of paint along the curbs.

It all looks so effortless, but don’t be fooled. The operation is so seamless only because volunteers and city employees work all year planning and prepping to make sure this event stays at the top of its game. Testimony to their success is that this is the 14th year for the event, and it has been ranked first or second in the nation multiple times.

It’s a wonderful weekend for the art itself, and a great marketing opportunity for Belleville, but most impressive to us are the people who make it all happen.
