Grizzlies fall to Miners in Marion

The Gateway Grizzlies (22-48) allowed the Southern Illinois Miners (28-41) to score seven unanswered runs en route to a 7-1 loss Thursday night at Rent One Park.

Blake Brown drove in Dan Holst for Gateway’s only run. It was Brown’s 51st RBI of the year, which ranks in the top 10 in the Frontier League.

Matt Hearn, Evan Rogers, Brent Sakurai and Holst also had hits.

Miners outfielder Ryan Sluder hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his second home run of the series.

Southern Illinois scored five more runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-1 lead.

Will Anderson threw six-plus innings for the Grizzlies, over which he allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Gateway will be back in action Friday night in Normal to open a three-game series against the CornBelters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and can be heard on the Grizzlies Media Network.
