Metro East Bears eliminated from American Legion regional

Rockport (Ind.) broke up a pitchers’ duel with four runs in the fourth inning Saturday and went on to defeat the Metro East Bears 6-1 in an elimination game at the American Legion Great Lakes Regional Tournament in Napoleon, Ohio.

Rockport (22-6) added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Winning pitcher Logan Seger went the distance, allowing five hits. The Bears had beaten Rockport in the opening game of the tournament Wednesday.

Andrew Frank was the losing pitcher for the Bears (42-10).

This is the second straight year in which Rockport has ended the Bears’ season in the regional. It defeated Metro East 4-3 in the regional title game a year ago, when the tournament was held in Edwardsville.

Dylan Burris had a run-scoring single in the fifth inning for the Bears. Blake Vandiver collected two of the Bears’ five hits.
