West shuts out Waterloo
The Belleville West Maroons shutout the Waterloo Bulldogs 5-0 in goalkeeper James Wiegers’ first win, first shutout, and first solo shutout of the season.
Garrett Bass picked up a hat trick with three goals and assisted on Xavier Brown’s two goals. Brown assisted two of Bass’s goals and Joey Pearson had the third assist.
West (4-2-1) will play a Southwestern Conference match against Granite City (0-3) as the teams currently occupy the sixth and seventh spot in the conference. Waterloo (3-5) will take on a Mississippi Valley Conference match up against Civic Memorial (2-5) on Sept. 6 at 5:45 p.m.
Columbia outlasts East
Columbia (6-0-1) shutout Belleville East (5-3) on Thursday, 2-0.
Jon Kuebler, Columbia goalkeeper, earned not only his first win but also his first solo shutout of the season. The Eagles scored in each half from Alex Barton and Jake Bridges. Ryan Lammert and Micah Peters got the assists.
Columbia has not lost a game all season with a tie to Springfield, separating them from a perfect record. The Eagles defeated both O’Fallon (1-0) and Belleville West (3-1) on August 26. They will look to continue their winning streak against fellow Cahokia conference team Central (3-1) on September 5 at 6:30 p.m.
The Lancers, who still sit second in the Southwestern Conference, will look to get out of their three game losing streak when they play Quincy (3-1) on September 1 at 4:30 p.m.
Glenwood nips Kahoks
Collinsville (4-4) narrowly lost to Glenwood (5-1), 4-3, on Thursday night. The Kahoks were down one going into half time and a goal in the second was not enough as Glenwood scored the game-winner.
Logan Whitehead lead Collinsville with two goals and one assist for Zane Baker’s goal. Goalkeeper Austin Gavlick took the loss but finished the 80 minutes with a .733 save percentage blocking 11 of the 15 Titan shots.
Collinsville faces an important Southwestern Conference game against O’Fallon on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Deatherage gives Triad a win
Jaden Deatherage scored the lone goal for Triad in its 1-0 win against Granite City on Thursday. Reiss Naylor picked up the win and solo shutout playing 80 minutes.
Triad (1-5) returns to the field Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to face Highland (1-3) in a key conference match. Granite City (0-3) travels to Springfield (2-1-1) on Sept. 2 for a nonconfernce game set to start at 2:30 p.m.
Althoff knocks off Centralia
The Althoff Crusaders (2-2-1) defeated the Centralia Orphans (1-2) in a conference match up on Thursday, 3-1.
Althoff led in the first half as the lone Centralia goal that stopped the shutout come in the second half. Freshman Alex Debourge, Sophomore Stone Galloway, and Junior Jimmy Monken scored for the Crusaders with assists from Dillon Birdsong, Christian Garcia, and Mitchell Kidd.
This was both teams first conference game and the Crusaders were able to put a footing in the South Seven Conference with the win.
Althoff will play a nonconference game against O’Fallon on Sept. 2 at noon.
Highland downs C-M
The Highland Bulldogs defeated the Civic Memorial Eagles 8-1 in Mississippi Valley Conference action Thursday.
Highland scored five goals in the first half. Civic Memorial scored once on goalkeeper Riley Fields who played the full 80 for the Bulldogs. Evan Herman and Andrew Roach each scored twice on the Eagles. Drake Gehrs, Zach Linhart, Nick Sikora, and Bryce Smith scored once for the orange and black.
Roach lead in assists with three while Herman and Smith each had one and Cory Stieb had one.
Highland (1-3) continues their four road game series with Father McGivney (5-1) on September 2 at 10 a.m. Civic Memorial (2-5) will face another conference game against Waterloo (3-4), who they lost 7-1 to earlier this week, on September 6 at 5:45 p.m.
Lebanon defeats Salem
Scoring in both the first and second half of Thursday night’s game paid off for the Greyhounds as the defeated Salem 2-1.
Lebanon (1-2) picked up their first win of the season with a lone goal and assist from Sam Schudel and a goal from Parker Grob.
Lebanon will play an undefeated Mascoutah (6-0) on Sept.1 at 4:20 p.m. Salem (2-4) faces Central (3-1) in both team’s first conference game of the season.
