Top performers in high school sports for Sept. 3

Andrew O’Keefe, Granite City, Cross Country

Running on his home course over the weekend, the senior for the Warriors posted a 15:10 over the 3-mile course to win the Granite City Invitational for the second year in a row. O’Keefe edged out Edwardsville’s Roland Prenzler, who came in second with a time of 15:16. St. Louis University High finished first with 75 points while Edwardsville and O’Fallon rounded out the top three teams with 80 and 82 points respectively. O’Keefe was the 2017 BND Runner of the Year and finished runner-up at the state track and field meet this past May in the Class 3A 1600 meter run.

Abby Korak, Edwardsville, Cross Country

The junior for the Tigers won the 2018 Granite City Invitational in a blazing time of 17:52 over the 3-mile course and helped propel her team to the victory with a total of 58 points. Korak finished 12 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Quincy’s Lydia Kurfman. O’Fallon with 92 and Belleville East with 110 points rounded out the top three teams on the day.

Chloe McIsaac, Belleville East, Tennis

McIsaac defeated Incarnate Word’s Liz Goldstein in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. McIsaac and her doubles partner Jo Jo Skaer also defeated Knights duo of Liz Goldstein and Lydia Diekman 8-2. Belleville East won the meet by a score of 9-0.

Maddie Buschur, Belleville East, Tennis

Buschur also defeated her opponent from Incarnate Word, Leah Curdit, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
