Top performers in high school sports for Sept. 5

Briana McMinn, O’Fallon, Golf

McMinn’s even par 36 on the lowest nine holes of the Tamarack Golf Course gave her a comfortable four stroke lead at O’Fallon’s home meet against Edwardsville and Alton on Wednesday afternoon. Edwardsville’s Riley Lewis placed second at four over par. McMinn’s efforts helped the Panthers take the victory with 162 points. Edwardsville was second with 168 points and Alton had 198 points.

Chloe, McIsaac, Belleville East, Tennis

McIsaac defeated Althoff’s Jordyn Roper 6-0, 6-0, boosting the Lancers to an 8-1 victory of the Crusaders. McIsaace and her doubles partner JoJo Skaer also defeated the Althoff duo of Olivia Melichar and Mary Nester 6-2, 6-4.

Maddie Buschur, Belleville East, Tennis

Buschur also had a great day for the Lancers in both singles and doubles. Buschur held a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Althoff’s Sam Land and with doubles partner, Maddy Hamilton, pulled out another 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kylie Chitwood and Maddie Mena.

Alex Barton, Columbia, Soccer

Barton, a senior for the Eagles, scored two goals in Columbia’s 4-0 shutout on the road of Granite City. Barton now has 5 goals on the season.

Stephen Hasse, Alton-Marquette, Soccer

Hasse scored two goals to lead the Explorers to a 5-1 non-conference win over Belleville East. The senior for Alton-Marquette has scored four goals so this season.
