Belleville East graduate continues to rise in Oakland A’s organization
Belleville native Drew Millas has yet to have his first at-bat as a member of the Oakland Athletics organization But the former Missouri State University standout has already become one of the A’s top prospects.
A 2016 graduate of Belleville East where he was a three-sport standout, Millas, 22, is currently the No. 4 rated catcher and No. 30 ranked prospect in the Oakland minor league system according to MLB.com.
Selected in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft after a superb college career at Missouri State, Millas missed all of his rookie season with the Oakland organization after suffering a sprained ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).
Oakland team doctors found a blood clot in his right arm pit, which landed him on the 60-day disabled list, ending his season.
The entire 2020 minor league season was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Millas was ranked as one of the top collegiate catchers in the nation during his three year career at Missouri State. He enjoyed his finest season in 2018 when he batted .321 with seven home runs and a team-leading 61 RBIs during that campaign and earned second-team All-America recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
