Central grad Jena Hemann places sixth at USA Outdoor Championships

Competing at the same venue where she placed sixth in the hepathlon at the NCAA Division I Championships just three weeks ago, Central High graduate Jena Hemann finished sixth again — and established a personal record with 6,022 points — at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships on Sunday in Eugene, Ore.

Hemann, who closed out her collegiate career on the same Heyward Field surface at the NCAA finals on June 11, eclipsed her own personal mark in the grueling seven-event, two-day heptahlon. Her previous mark of 6,002 points was set earlier this year at the Texas Relays.

Hemann finished with 5,913 points at the NCAA Championships. The title went to Barbara Nwaba with 6,500 points.
