Wood River man charged with battering children in Pontoon Beach motel

EDWARDSVILLE - A Wood River man was charged Monday with battering his children in a Pontoon Beach motel room.

The 31-year-old suspect was charged April 13 with two counts of aggravated battery, both Class 3 felonies; and two counts of domestic battery, both Class 4 felonies.

The Pontoon Beach Police Department presented the case.

According to court documents, on March 12, the suspect allegedly battered a 5-year-old and a 7-year-old, identified in other court documents as his children, by shoving and pushing them onto a bed, causing bruising.

It was noted that the suspect has a prior conviction for domestic battery out of Madison County in a 2019 case.

The suspect was ordered remanded to jail.

According to a petition to deny pre-trial release filed by the Madison County State's Attorney's Office, the children told their mother that while staying with their father, the suspect "slammed both children onto a bed." Both children had bruising on their necks, which was photographed by the police.

It was noted that in addition to prior convictions for domestic battery and violating orders of protection, he has several related cases pending, and that within a month, the suspect "is alleged to have caused bodily harm to three separate children who are either his own children or family or household members."

Alton woman charged with battering paramedic

A 29-year-old Alton woman was charged April 13 with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

The Maryville Police Department presented the case.

According to court documents, on Feb. 28, the suspect punched, kicked, and spat on a paramedic as she was being placed in an ambulance.

She was ordered released from custody.

Alton man charged as felon with ammunition

A 32-year-old Alton man was charged April 13 with felon in possession of firearm ammunition, a Class 3 felony; and driving while license revoked, a Class A misdemeanor.

The Maryville Police Department presented the case.

According to court documents, on April 2, the suspect was allegedly found to be a convicted felon in possession of seven rounds of 9mm ammunition and was driving a Mitsubishi on S. Center Street, Maryville, with a revoked driver's license.

It was noted that the suspect has a prior conviction for unlawful possession of methamphetamine out of Madison County in 2018, making him ineligible to possess weapons or ammunition.

The suspect was ordered released from custody.

East Alton woman charged with fraud, theft

A 34-year-old East Alton woman was charged April 13 with two counts of use of account number or code with intent to defraud, both Class 4 felonies; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

The East Alton Police Department presented the case.

According to court documents, on Jan. 24, the suspect allegedly used another person's SNAP benefits account to purchase items from Walmart; used the same victim's Cash App to transfer funds; and took a phone valued in excess of $500 from the victim.

She was ordered released from custody.

These individuals have only been charged and remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.
