LOCAL ROUNDUP: Danville softball gets past Oakwood/Schlarman

DANVILLE - Paisley Bean had a walk-off single on Tuesday as the Danville softball team beat Oakwood/Schlarman Academy 5-4 at Clyde Osborn Field.

Payton Beith had three hits and two RBIs for the Lady Vikings, while Ava Foster and Kealee Alyea each had two hits and an RBI and Deana Linares had five strikeouts on the mound for the win.

Irene Rangel had two RBIs at the plate and had six strikeouts for the Comets, while Ashtyn Dailey had three hits and an RBI, Lainee Smith had one RBI and Avery Trimmell had two hits.

The Lady Vikings then had their makeup game with Hoopeston Area on Wednesday and won 10-4. Bean had five hits and an RBI, while Alyea and Olivia Scaggs each had two RBIs, Foster had two hits and an RBI, Gabby Crider had an RBI and Linares had an RBI and 13 strikeouts on the mound.

Adyline Rutledge had two hits and two RBIs for the Cornjerkers, while Kennedy Wallace and Rylynn Weber each had two hits.

Hoopeston Area was coming off its first win on Tuesday, a 22-0 win over Heritage. Chloe Miller had three hits and three RBIs for the Cornjerkers, while Addyson Kelnhofer had two hits and three RBIs, Weber had three RBis, Rutledge had two RBIs, Camilla Linder had two hits and an RBI and Lilliana Pagan and Peyton Irons each had one RBI.

The Cornjerkers are 1-10 and will play Iroquois West on Friday, while the Lady Vikings are 7-7 and will host Normal West today and the Comets are 11-6 and will face Milford on Friday.

Salt Fork 15, Blue Ridge 0

CATLIN - The Storm had 14 hits as they beat Blue Ridge in four innings.

Karli McGee had two doubles with three RBIs for Salt Fork, while Lainey Ehler had two hits and two RBIs, Bella Kurtenbach and Brilynn Barnett each had two RBIs, Ava Ringstrom and Sailor Pacot each had two hits and an RBI, Matti Huchel and Annalise Chambliss each had one RBI and Morgan Russell had two hits and seven strikeouts on the mound.

The Storm hit the road against Fisher on Tuesday and won 7-1. Ehler had two hits and two RBIs, while Kate Wochner had two RBIs, Russell had one RBI and McGee had six strikeouts to get the win.

Salt Fork is 10-6 and will face Watseka on Friday.

Westville 12, PBL 1

WESTVILLE - Lilly Kiesel had three hits and five RBIs as the Tigers beat the Panthers in five innings.

Dannika Hamer had two hits and an RBI for Westville, while Jazmyn Bennett had an RBI and Sophia Bays had two hits.

The Tigers are 12-2 and will play Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin today.

Paris 22, Geo-RF 3

PARIS - Annistyn Tovey and Madison Nevels each had an RBI as the Buffaloes lost to the Tigers in four innings on Tuesday.

The Buffaloes are 3-10 and will play Oakwood/Schlarman on Friday.

Seeger 12, North Vermillion 1

WEST LEBANON, Ind. - The Patriots had 11 hits as they beat the Falcons in five innings for the second straight day.

Vivienne Middleton had two hits and three RBIs for Seeger, while Sydney Stephen had three hits and two RBIs, Zoe Thomas had two hits and two RBIs, Lyla Badger had three hits and an RBI and Lainie Serie and Autumn Plunkett each had an RBI.

Willow Campbell had two hits for North Vermillion, who lost 20-3 to Seeger on Tuesday. Campbell also had two hits, while Ava Jumps had an RBI.

Layla Cavanaugh had five hits with four RBIs for the Patriots on Tuesday, while Badger and Middleton each had two hits and four RBIs, Stephen had four hits and two RBIs, Emma Winder had one RBI and Serie had two hits.

Covington 19, Attica 1

ATTICA, Ind. - Alexus Peaslee had two hits and four RBIs and had six strikeouts on the mound as the Trojans beat the Red Ramblers in five on Tuesday.

Taylor Martin and Ashlyn Alexander each had three hits and two RBIs for Covington, while Lauren Hardy had three hits and an RBI, Preslee Shaw and Kynlynn Lowry each had two RBIs, Ava Stein, Ashlyn Coffing and Bentlee Nesbitt each had one RBI and Caydence Peaslee had two hits.

The Trojans are 4-4 and will face Attica again today.

West Lafayette 13, Fountain Central 3

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Patience Bixler had a triple and two RBIs, but the Mustangs lost in six innings to West Lafayette.

Jacquelynn Weber had an RBI for Fountain Central, who was coming off a 9-8 win over South Vermillion on Tuesday. Bixler, Kyra Kiger and Braelynn Kiger each had two RBIs, while Lillian Bennett had two hits and an RBI and Keylee Stonebreaker had one RBI.

The Mustangs are 4-3 and will play Southmont today.

Normal Community 11, Danville 0

NORMAL - The Vikings were not-hit as they lost in six innings to the Ironmen.

Blake Warfield took the loss for Danville, who is 1-11 and will play Peoria Richwoods on Friday.

South Vigo 11, Westville 5

WESTVILLE - The Tigers' bats were held up later in the game as South Vigo added on the runs.

Ben Johnson had two hits and three RBIs for Westville, while Christian Giles had two hits and Kiptyn Appl had and RBI.

The Tigers are 9-8 and will play Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin today.

West Vigo 14, BHRA 4

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Landen Packard had three RBIs as the Blue Devils lost to West Vigo.

Chase Warren had the other RBI for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, who drop to 6-4.

Arcola 13, Salt Fork 6

CATLIN - The Storm were down 6-0 in the first inning and could not recover at home.

Weston Church had three RBIs for Salt Fork, while Zayden Bromley had two RBIs, Fletcher Clem had one RBI and Braxton Clem and Pedro Rangel V each had two hits.

The Storm are 5-5 and will play Watseka on Friday.

Prairie Central 13, Hoopeston Area 3

FAIRBURY - Brayden Cornelius had two RBIs, but the Cornjerkers lost on the road on Tuesday.

Felix Cantu had one RBI for Hoopeston Area, who are 2-9 and will play Iroquois West on Friday.

Seeger 13, North Vermillion 0

CAYUGA, Ind. - Connor Riegle-Sallee had three hits with a home run and three RBIs as the Patriots shut out the Falcons on Tuesday.

Peyton Grimmett had three hits and five RBIs for Seeger, while Logan Anderson had two hits and two RBIs and Ryder Hannon had an RBI.

The Patriots are 1-4 and will face Rossville today.

S. Vermillion 6, Fountain Central 3

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. - Ryan Mitchell had two hits and two RBIs as the Mustangs lost to the Wildcats.

Joan Cervantes had an RBI for Fountain Central, who are 1-4 and will play Southmont on Friday.

Covington 17, Attica 2

ATTICA, Ind. - Kaden Smith had 10 strikeouts as the Trojans beat the Red Ramblers on Tuesday.

Smith also had a home run and three RBIs for Covington, while Davyn Green had two hits and three RBIs, AJ Asbury, Gavin Ziegler and Easton Alexander each had two RBIs, Kyler Zarn had two hits and an RBI and Kyven Hill had an RBI.

COVINGTON, Ind. - Andrew Wright won medalist honors with a 38 as the Trojans easily won their home opener on Tuesday.

Cole Witsman had a 41, Luke Holycross carded a 43, Clyde Keller shot a 48 and Danny Smith scored a 50.

Covington hosts three teams

COVINGTON, Ind. - The Covington track teams hosted Fountain Central, Riverton Parke and South Vermillion on Tuesday.

In the boys meet, Hayden Wigley won the 100 (11.12 seconds) and 200 (23.55) dashes for Fountain Central. The 400 relay team won in 48.50, while John Carver won the shot put (37 feet, 2 1/2 inches) and was second in the discus (109 7 1/2). Keith Drummond had the highest finish for Covington by taking second in the shot put (36-10).

In the girls meet, Breanna Batley won the 300 hurdles for Covington (54.86), while Landrie Sutton took second in the 400 (1:09) and 800 (2:54) and Chloe Whittington was second in the long jump (12-9 1/2).

Scarlett Parker won the 100 hurdles for Fountain Central (17.92) and Lilly Gregory won the high jump (4-8).

North Vermillion battles Seeger

CAYUGA, Ind. - The Falcons hosted the Patriots in a dual meet on Tuesday.

In the boys meet, Anthony Bowen won the 110 (17.76) and 300 (45.25) hurdles for Seeger, while Parker Bryant won the 200 dash (24.09), Reid Dispennett won the 400 (55.91), Landon Dispennett took the 800 (2:04), Joshua Dill won the 1,600 (5:35), Jose Raynal won the 3,200 (11:37), Maddox Gunnum won the long jump (18-2) and Cory Moore-Walker won the shot put (40-6 1/2). The 400 (46.35), the 1,600 (4:07) and 3,200 (4:07) relay teams also won for Seeger.

Lane Thomann won the 100 (11.70) for North Vermillion, while Bradley Cope won the high jump (5-10) and Andre Buchhaas won the discus (135-11).

In the girls meet, Laney Walters won the 100 (13.41) and long jump (13-11 1/2) for North Vermillion, while Riley Smith won the 800 (2:29), and 100 hurdles (17.77), Nora Thomann won the high jump (4-10) and discus (81-1), Aryn Smith won the 200 (28.59), Breanna Tryon won the 400 (1:06) and Bree Earls won the shot put (25-11). The 400 (55.45) and 1,600 (4:35) also won for the Falcons.

Maria Frasch won the 1,600 for Seeger (6:34), while Audrianna Haire won the 3,200 (15:00), Caleigh Purcell took the 300 hurdles (48.83) and the 3,200 relay team won in 13:04.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE GOLF

Crain going to nationals

SHAWNEE, Okla. - Danville Area Community College's Sydni Crain won golfer of the year from Region 24 and wound up qualifying for the NJCAA Division II Tournament.

Crain shot a score of 170 for the Central District Championship and her play got her in the nationals, which is set for May at Ol'Colony Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
