Savanna Siglock makes 17 saves in Cavies' 2-0 soccer win at Southwestern
Goalie Savanna Siglock was on fire Monday for the Carlinville Cavaliers at Southwestern.
Siglock made 17 saves and the Cavies scored a pair of second-half goals on Monday en route to a 2-0 South Central Conference victory over the Piasa Birds in Piasa.
"(Siglock) was amazing," Southwestern coach Steve Mitchell said. "I thought we controlled a lot of the game. We outshot them, but she made some unbelievable saves. You have to tip you cap to her. She's a great goalie."
Southwestern outshot the Cavies 17-6.
"Savanna definitely played well," Carlinvile coach Jason Crowell said. "It was the best game she has had all season."
After a scoreless first half, Berlynne Eades scored off an assist from teammate Blakely Swan in the 64th minute to put the Cavies up 1-0.
Twelve minutes later, Myleee Ribble doubled the Carlinville lead with an unassisted goal.
The loss dropped the Piasa Birds to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the SCC. Carlinville is 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Carlinville's next game is set for Wednesday at home against Staunton. Southwestern will play at Auburn Friday.
McGivney 0, O'Fallon 0 - In O'Fallon, Father McGivney battled the defending Class 3A state champion O'Fallon Panthers to scoreless tie.
O'Fallon, which won its third state championship in five seasons last spring, moved to 8-1-2. The Panthers, ranked sixth in Class 3A by MaxPreps, came into the game on the heels of a 4-1 loss to Cor Jesu Academy of St. Louis..
Wesclin 8, EA_WR 0 - Nevaeh Quitmeyer scored four goals and the Wesclin Warriors pulled away from East Alton-Wood River in the second half after leadng 2-0 at halftime.
Other Wesclin goals were scored by Kenley Henry (2), Olivia Bell and Jaime Locke.
