Mike Greenberg Showed Great Character With His NFL Draft Apology

Mike Greenberg went viral during the 2026 NFL Draft - and not in a good way.

The host of the NFL Draft on ESPN made a truly embarrassing mistake. The "Get Up!" host claimed that a 2026 NFL Draft pick was the son of a former star player in the league. However, that was not the case.

"You remember his dad, David Boston, first-round pick out of Ohio State in 1999," said Greenberg, after the Browns took wide receiver Denzel Boston.

They are not even related, though.

One hour later, Greenberg issued a public apology.

"The Cleveland Browns traded out of the spot (pick No. 74) just a moment ago," Greenberg said. "I was waiting for them to come around again so that I could make an apology to Denzel Boston, who, earlier tonight, I misidentified as being the son of former NFL wide receiver David Boston. It was a mistake in my research. It was a terrible one, and I apologize to them both. They are not related to each other. And so I apologize to both David and Denzel Boston, and congratulations to Denzel for being drafted in the second round tonight by the Cleveland Browns. It is my mistake, and I apologize for it."

Greenberg's character shines with NFL Draft apology

It's not easy to admit you're wrong, especially when you're someone with as big of a profile as Greenberg.

But the ESPN host decided to own up to his mistake on Thursday evening.

It's cool to see that Greenberg is able to both make a mistake and then publicly own up to it. We need more of that in sports media today. Far too many people will mess up, or say something dumb, and never address it, choosing to just sweep it under the rug..

Greenberg deserved to be criticized for his NFL Draft mistake on Thursday evening, but he should be praised for his quick apology, as well.

Good for Mike Greenberg.
