May 8-Father McGivney's comeback effort fell short in Belleville.

The Maroons jumped out to a five-run lead before holding off the Griffins for a 6-4 win on May 8 in Belleville.

It was the second straight loss for FMCHS, which dropped to 18-7. It was Father McGivney's fourth loss in its last nine games.

Belleville West improved to 13-11.

The Maroons led 5-0 after scoring a run in the first and four in the third before the Griffins got a grand slam from Isaac Wendler in the sixth to pull within 5-4.

It was as close as FMCHS would get, as Belleville West scored once in the bottom of the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh to finish the win.

Belleville West outhit Father McGivney 12-6.

Ty Etcheson went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Griffins, while Wendler was 1 for 3 with a home run and four RBI and Omar Avalos, Scott Phelps and Patrick Gierer each had a hit.

SOFTBALL

Nokomis 22, Father McGivney 12 - Father McGivney's rally came up short in a six-inning loss at Nokomis.

The Indians scored the game's first 15 runs before the Griffins rallied to cut the deficit to six runs, but ultimately fell 22-12 on May 8 in nonconference action.

Father McGivney dropped to 9-10, while Nokomis improved to 6-14.

The game featured 21 hits between the two teams with 20 walks and eight errors.

Alexa Jones led the Griffins, going 2 for 5 with a double and four RBI. Nora Mensing was 1 for 4 with three RBI and Morgan Zobrist and Eve Stanhaus each drove in a run.
