Barry Creviston resigns as Routt football coach, athletic director

May 28-Longtime Routt football coach Barry Creviston is resigning.

Creviston told his players about his decision Thursday night. Creviston said his resignation wasn't in response to anything. He said he just thought it was time to step away.

Creviston will continue as athletic director until the end of the baseball season. He will no longer be teaching at Routt.

Creviston's son Cannon graduated this year.

Creviston coached at Routt from 2003-09. He subsequently coached at Johnsburg, New Berlin and then North Greene before returning to Routt in 2018.

"Routt, in a nutshell, is family, and once you're in that intertwined Routt family, it's tough to get out," Creviston said in 2018. "People who don't know sometimes don't get it. But it's a special place. Very fond memories from the last time I was here. My presence here - I hope to improve those memories as well. It's just a special place, and if you don't know, you probably aren't involved. You just have to roll up your sleeves and get to work, and the people who see you work hard respect that. And that's what we want."

Creviston finished 71-64 overall at Routt, with three playoff appearances in the past eight seasons. The Rockets made the postseason for the first time in seven years in his first season back.
