Jones helps Cumberland take down Altamont to advance to regional finals; WSS, Casey, Neoga to play for regional titles
Below are results from postseason baseball games from Thursday:
Cumberland 1, Altamont 0
The Cumberland Pirates defeated the Altamont Indians, 1-0, in a regional semifinal of the Class 1A Altamont Regional.
Cumberland scored one run in the sixth inning. The Pirates had six hits in the game. Altamont had three hits.
Maddox Miller, Kade McMechan, Lance Lock, Reed Miller and Reed Walker each had one hit for Cumberland. Grady Jones had one hit and one RBI. Bryson Weber had one run scored.
Jones pitched for the Pirates and allowed three hits and three walks to six strikeouts over seven innings.
Brayden Elam had one hit (one double) for the Indians. Will Reardon and Reed Stuemke each had one hit.
Zaine Miller pitched for Altamont and allowed six hits, one run and one walk to six strikeouts over seven innings.
Cumberland will face Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg for the regional championship today at 11 a.m.
Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg 4, Red Hill 2
The Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchets defeated the Bridgeport (Red Hill) Salukis, 4-2, in a regional semifinal of the Class 1A Neoga Regional.
WSS scored two runs in the second inning and one in the third and sixth. The Hatchets had three hits in the game.
Branson Tingley had one hit. Brody Barnard had one hit and two runs scored. Seth Rincker had one hit and one RBI. Jacob Vonderheide and Parker Duncan each had one RBI and Mason Manhart and Derk Friese each had one run scored.
Carter Verdeyen started and allowed four hits, two runs and three walks to 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. Manhart followed and allowed one walk to one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning.
Casey-Westfield 9, Dieterich 8
The Dieterich Movin Maroons fell to the Casey-Westfield Warriors, 9-8, in a regional semifinal of the Class 1A North Clay Regional.
Dieterich scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third and five in the fourth. The Movin Maroons had eight hits and recorded three errors in the game.
Alex Schottman had two hits and one run scored. Carson Baxter had two hits (one double), two RBI and one run scored. Bryce Bohnhoff had one hit (one triple), one RBI and one run scored. Gavin Meinhart had one hit, one RBI and one run scored. Dominic Ashley had one hit and two RBI. Gaddison Goeckner had one hit and one run scored. Mason Lidy had one RBI and one run scored and Justin Boerngen had one run scored.
Jackson Icenogle started and allowed four hits, six runs (four earned) and seven walks to four strikeouts over six innings. Lidy followed and allowed five hits, three runs and four walks to one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings.
Casey-Westfield will face North Clay for the regional championship today at 11 a.m.
Neoga 2, Arcola 1
The Neoga Indians defeated the Arcola Purple Riders, 2-1, in a regional semifinal of the Class 1A Neoga Regional.
Neoga scored one run in the fifth and seventh innings. The Indians had four hits and recorded two errors in the game.
Garrett Ballinger had two hits (one double) and two runs scored. Braylon Sparrow and Evan Fearday each had one hit and one RBI.
Cayden Hakman started and allowed four hits and one run with four strikeouts over four innings. Malik Coy and Fearday followed. Coy allowed one hit with five strikeouts in two innings; Fearday had one strikeout in one inning.
Neoga will face Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond for the regional championship today at 11 a.m.
