Wood Brothers Racing Gets Crushed For Moving On From Josh Berry
With the NASCAR Cup Series set to compete at Pocono Raceway this weekend, Josh Berry has revealed that he's parting ways with Wood Brothers Racing.
Berry, 35, is currently in his second full season driving the No. 21 Ford for Wood Brothers Racing. Although he has recorded top-10 finishes at Daytona and Martinsville this year, the majority of his 2026 campaign has been underwhelming. As of this week, he's 30th in the standings.
During a teleconference this Wednesday, reporters were informed by Berry that he's not returning to Wood Brothers Racing for the 2027 season.
"You hear the rumor mills start going, so I'm not going to say that I was completely caught off guard. I didn't exactly feel great about it. I probably would have said myself I was probably 50-50 in what was going on," Berry said, via NASCAR.com. "I've been extremely fortunate to get the opportunities I've had, and been extremely fortunate to drive for the Wood Brothers and this team. And unfortunately, it's going a different direction."
Despite this unfortunate news, Berry hasn't lost confidence in his abilities.
"I'm still the same guy that nearly won New Hampshire in the playoffs. We just have to spend a tough year, like I said, but we'll work through it and try to find out what's out there."
Fans are hoping better days are ahead for Berry.
NASCAR fans aren't thrilled about Wood Brothers moving on from Berry, but they're hoping he'll land in the right situation for the 2027 season.
"Best thing for his career to be honest," one fan replied to the news.
"Well this just kicked off the silly season with a bang," a second fan wrote. "I didn't see this coming. He was the best driver they had in years."
"I feel really bad for whoever's career is about to be ruined by getting in this car," a third fan commented.
"Hope this is towards a better opportunity for Josh," another fan said. "You could obviously tell what was going on over at Wood Brothers and Berry wasn't it."
Berry has been racing full-time in the Cup Series since 2024. We'd have to imagine he'll have no trouble finding a new team in the coming months.
