Brazil Lineup vs. Norway: Is Neymar Playing Today?

Brazil takes on Norway today at MetLife Stadium for a spot in the quarterfinals, and Carlo Ancelotti has the chance to prove his doubters wrong with a win.

The Selecao sent Japan home with a 2-1 victory in the Round of 32 thanks to Gabriel Martinelli's injury-time goal and will be aiming to end Norway and Erling Haaland's tournament run.

Before the win against Japan, Brazil topped Group C with seven points, securing victories over Haiti and Scotland after drawing with Morocco in the opening match.

While Brazil's performances have generated plenty of interest, Neymar's status has been one of the biggest topics surrounding the team throughout the World Cup.

The 34-year-old suffered a right calf muscle injury while playing for Santos in May and made his first appearance at this tournament when he came on against Scotland. Ancelotti then chose not to bring Neymar on in the match against Japan.

Is Neymar Playing Against Norway?

Ancelotti previously stated that Neymar was capable of playing 90 minutes, but as of now, it doesn't appear that the Italian coach is planning to start the former PSG and Barcelona star.

When asked about Neymar's availability, he said Neymar is available.

"The important thing is that he is available to play. How long he will play, nobody knows. He has the experience to manage his minutes and the tempo of the game. When I feel the team needs him, I will put him on [the pitch]."

"Yes. He can play 90 minutes."

"He is training very well. Neymar is highly respectful, amiable, and loved by his teammates. He is an important character in the squad because he possesses immense quality and is a very humble person. I am very happy with him. And obviously, he wants to play, just as he always has."

When asked if Neymar had asked for a role in the starting XI, the head coach clarified:

"He doesn't directly say 'I want to play,' but that desire is quite clear. And it's a positive thing. A player cannot be happy sitting on the bench."

Neymar will most likely come off the bench, with Ancelotti expected to bring him on later in the match to make an impact.
