What president first threw out Opening Day pitch?

Today’s question: Of all the Major League Baseball opening day traditions this one is perhaps the most famous. Who was the first sitting U.S. president to throw out the first pitch on opening day?

Yesterday’s question and answer: One of the great St. Louis Cardinals World Series moments came in 1926, when Grover Cleveland Alexander relieved starter Jesse Haines and struck out Tony Lazzeri, with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to preserve the Redbirds’ 3-2 lead over the Yankees. Who was the Cardinals’ manager that season? The answer is Rogers Hornsby. Haines came out because of a finger injury on his pitching hand. Alexander went on to finish the game, allowing no Yankee hits.
