Former big leaguer to speak to Belleville men’s group

Former major league baseball infielder Stan Royer, of Columbia, will be the guest speaker on Friday, May 13, at the meeting of the Belleville Area Senior Men's Sports Group.

A first-round draft pick of the Oakland A's in 1988 when he was the 14th player selected overall, he remains the highest draft choice ever from Eastern Illinois University. Oakland's Minor League Player of the Year in '88 when he hit . 318 on the Class A level, he later was involved in the 1990 trade that sent outfielder Willie McGee from the St. Louis Cardinals to the A's.
