Who first hit 20-plus HRs in Derby?
Today’s question: Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins put on a power hitting display for the ages in winning the Home Run Derby on Monday in San Diego. But who was the first player to hit 20 or more home runs in a single round of the Home Run Derby?
Yesterday’s answer: Arky Vaughan. Ted Williams was the star of the 1941 All-Star game in Detroit, belting a walk-off three-run homer in the ninth inning to give the AL a 7-5 victory. However, Arky Vaughan, of the Pittsburgh Pirates, also had an outstanding game. He hit a pair of two-run home runs, the first off Sid Hudson in the seventh inning and the other off Edgar Smith in the eighth frame. Eddie Miller, Joe Cronin and Lou Boudreau were shortstops who also participated in the 1941 All-Star game.
