SIU’s Netemeyer honored as scholar-athlete

Ryan Netemeyer, a junior pitcher at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and graduate of Mascoutah High School, was an honorable mention selection to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team.

He was a semifinalist for both National Pitcher of the Year and NCBWA Stopper of the Year. He was an honorable mention All-MVC pick and finished the regular season tied for second in the NCAA with 15 saves.

Netemeyer's 15 saves led the MVC and set a new SIU single-season record. He did not allow and earned run in the months of March or April and was named MVC Pitcher of the Week earlier this year for throwing 3.2 no-hit innings and collecting three saves, all on the road, in a week in March.

Prior to joining the Salukis, Netemeyer was a first team all-state, all-area and all-conference selection at Mascoutah in addition to being named an Under Armour Preseason All-American.
