The Lindenwood University-Belleville football team will face the Saint Xavier University Cougars Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood Stadium for the second home game of the season.

Saturday marks just the second time that the Lynx (0-2) and Cougars (1-2) will meet for a football game, with the Cougars prevailing in last year’s contest.

The Lynx will be looking for their first win of the season after falling Sunday to the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees. If the Lynx want to win on Saturday, they are going to have to rely on senior quarterback Dennis Chester to deliver after sophomore quarterback Peter Smith left last game early with a knee injury.

Other offensive players to watch for are running back Larry Whitfield who rushed for 50 yards against St. Ambrose, and wide receivers Ricardo Henry and Eduardo Nevarez, who combined are averaging eight yards per reception.

Defensively for the Lynx, look out for players like defensive back Tre Bell, who has two interceptions in as many games this season with five tackles in Sunday’s game, linebacker Lance Winkler, who leads the team in tackles with 15 thus far, and defensive back Layne Stockton, who also had an interception in Sunday’s game with eight unassisted tackles to his credit.

Key players to watch for Saint Xavier are quarterback Alex Martinez, who has thrown for 442 yards and two touchdowns, wide receiver Harold Davis, who averages 14 yards per reception, and wide receiver Elliott Pipkin, averaging 12 yards per reception.

The Cougars are coming off a dominating performance last weekend in their 34-7 victory over the Missouri Baptist University Spartans.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
