This week’s honoree is SIUE women’s basketball player Sydney Bauman. The senior from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history and has a grade point average of 3.30.

Bauman leads the team with 10.8 rebounds per game and her 9.4 points per game is third on the team. Bauman has recorded two double-doubles through SIUE’s first five games.

For their next contest, the Cougars travel to face Loyola Thursday at 7 p.m.

McSweeney collects GLVC athlete of the week honors

Senior Quincy McSweeney (Eureka, IL/Eureka) was named athlete of the week for indoor track and field by the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) on Tuesday due to her strong record-breaking mile performance at the Vanderbilt Home Opener this past weekend.

In the first meet of the year for the Bearcats, McSweeney shattered a school record that has not been broken for 20 years and set a new personal best time for herself in the mile race. McSweeney finished with a 4:57.50 time to take second place in the event. With her impressive time, McSweeney also sits atop the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in Division II mile time rankings and sixth overall in the All-College Top Ten.

The Bearcats will return to action this weekend as they head to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the Crimson and Gold Invitational at Pittsburg State University on Dec. 8.
