Former Central star Kendra Wilken named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week

Continuing to make the most of her final year of college basketball, Saint Louis University senior and former Central High School standout Kendra Wilken has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week

Wilken earned the honor for the week of Feb. 3-9.

A 6-2 center and 2016 Central graduate, Wilken led the Billikens to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 24 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and shooting 78.3 percent from the field (18-23).

The senior began the week recording her fifth double-double of the season, collecting 23 points and 11 rebounds, along with one assist and a block against Saint Joseph’s. She followed up that performance by tallying a career-best 25 points, with six rebounds, three blocks and two assists at George Mason.

Wilken has a team-leading nine double-digit rebounding games, and she’s scored more than 10 points in 11 contests this season. Wilken currently is averaging 11.4 points and a team-leading eight rebounds per game.

A three -time first team Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and two-time Associated Press first team all-state selection while at Central, Wilken concluded her high school career as the Cougars all-timer leader for both girls and boys basketball in points (2,258) and rebounds (1,197).

A two-time Belleville News-Democrat Class 1-2A Player of the Year, Wilken led Central to four straight Cahokia Conference championships and a record of 118-15 during her high school career..

Saint Louis (14-9, 6-4) plays at Rhode Island on Wednesday.
