Late TD gives Lynx their first victory
Tarean Austin connected with Walter Jackson on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds remaining to give the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx a 24-23 road victory over Olivet Nazaene on Saturday in Bourbonnais.
Jackson’s catch was his second in a span of three plays for the Lynx. His first, a 56-yard reception, had set up LU-Belleville with a first and goal at the Olivet Nazarene 17-yard line.
The teams had swapped the lead four time before the Lynx went ahead for good in the final seconds. A 16-yard touchdown pass from Derek Durkes to Rasaan Gaymon had given Olivet Nazarene its final lead at 23-18 with 3:30 to go in the game.
The Lynx’s KaRaJackson intercepted a pass by Durkes on the final play.
Jackson also scored on a 97-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. That score made it 7-6. LU-B missed all four of its extra-point attempts.
Althoff grad Kam Harris finished with 28 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown. Austin completed 16 of 39 passes for 193 yards. Jackson had five catches for 130 yards.
