Former Belleville West All-American kicker Austin Seibert, now a freshman kicker and punter at the University of Oklahoma, has been named Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Seibert was successful on three field-goal attempts and all five of his extra points Saturday in the 4-0 and 10th-ranked Sooners’ 44-24 victory over West Virginia. He also averaged 43.4 yards on five punts, with three of those downed inside the 20-yard line. One of his punts was a career-best 58 yards.
Seibert’s field goals were from 44, 40 and 25 yards.
He is 7-for-7 on field goals in his first four college games, with the longest Saturday’s 44-yarder. He also has three field goals of 40 yards or more and is 21-for-21 on extra-point attempts.
“Austin’s managed everything really well,” Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops told the Oklahoma Daily recently. “So far he’s been really good. He’s a very confident man, no question. He’s been the same every day since he’s been here.”
While at West, Seibert had numerous full scholarship offers as one of the most recruited kickers/punters from the metro-east since former Notre Dame and NFL kicker and punter Craig Hentrich. Hentrich starred at Alton Marquette High.
