SIUE’s Butts names OVC Co-Player of the Week

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Shronda Butts was honored Tuesday by the Ohio Valley Conference as the women's basketball Co-Player of the Week.

Butts, who averaged 21.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last week, shared the honor with Belmont's Sally McCabe.

The senoir guard from Des Moines, recorded 20-plus points in both of SIUE's games last week, including 20 in a win over Illinois State and 23 against SIU Carbondale. She hit 11 of 14 shots from the free throw line and is among the national leaders in several offensive categories.

As of Sunday, she is ranked ninth nationally in free throws made with 45 and 14th nationally in free throws attempted with 56.

The NCAA also lists Butts among the nation's top 100 in points per game (29th/19.9), field goal attempts (46th/122), field goals made (66th/52), total points (22nd/159) and minutes played (44th/293).

SIUE is in the middle of a three-game home stand. Next up for SIUE is a Friday matchup against IUPUI at 7 p.m.
