SIUE matmen lose dual to Indiana

Nate Higgins earned a first-period pin to highlight Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s performance at Indiana.

The Hoosiers won their first dual meet of the season, eclipsing the Cougars 25-12.

“We were probably underdogs, but we felt like there was a lot of winnable matches,” said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates.

Higgins, a redshirt freshman from Bellevill West, pinned Bryce Martin in 2 minutes, 57 seconds at 165 pounds.

SIUE, 0-4, also picked up victories from Dakota Leach with a 4-2 sudden victory win over Alonzo Shepherd at 133 pounds and Jake Tindle with a 1-0 win over Jake Madengale at 197 pounds.

SIUE returns home for a dual match Sunday when the Wildcats of Northwestern visit the Vadalabene Center for a 7 p.m. contest.
