SIUE’s Eslik named OVC Player of the Week

Following a record-setting performance, SIUE junior guard Burak Eslik has been honored as the men's basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week by the Ohio Valley Conference.

Eslik averaged 30.5 points for the week and was 8-13 (.615) from three-point range and 19-23 (.826) from the free throw line.

Thursday against Morehead State, Eslik connected on seven consecutive three-pointers in the game's first seven minutes. He finished with 40 points, establishing an SIUE program record at the Division I level. The Cougars fell in heart-breaking fashion 70-67 in overtime to the Eagles.

On Saturday, Eslik led SIUE with 21 points and was a perfect 10 for 10 at the free throw line. He was fouled during a three-point attempt with 18 seconds to play. He sank all three free throws to lift the Cougars to their first OVC win of the year, 67-65 over Eastern Kentucky.

This is the first Player of the Week award for Eslik. He earned Newcomer of the Week honors Dec. 14.
