Salukis slugger and Nashville High grad Shaye Harre named MVC Softball Player of the Week
Southern Illinois University Carbondale softball first baseman and Nashville High graduate Shaye Harre was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
The Salukis went 3-0 last week and Harre went 5-for-8 with a double, three home runs, nine RBIs, three walks and four runs scored in those games.
Southern Illinois posted a 14-2 win over St. Louis University on Wednesday before sweeping a doubleheader from Loyola on Saturday. Harre tied a school record with two home runs in a game vs. SLU. Over the three games, her slugging percentage was 1.875 and her on-base percentage was .727 while playing error-free defense.
Harre, a junior, is hitting .409 with six doubles, seven home runs and 27 RBIs through 24 games.
The honor is Harre’s third weekly honor from the MVC. She earned MVC Newcomer of the Week once in 2014 and Player of the Week once last season.
Harre’s honor is the fifth weekly conference honor for SIU this season. Freshman pitcher Brianna Jones has earned MVC Pitcher of the Week twice and MVC Newcomer of the Week twice more. Drake pitcher Nicole Newman was named MVC Pitcher of the Week and freshman infielder Kennedy Frank was named MVC Newcomer of the Week.
Southern Illinois (16-8, 2-0 MVC) is eight games over .500 for the first time since the 2012 season and riding a season-high four-game winning streak. The Salukis have won eight of their last nine games. SIU hosts Southeast Missouri at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Charlotte West Stadium.
