Harvey clears 7 feet to set SIUE high-jump record
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s track and field junior Julian Harvey was honored as the Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Harvey, a graduate of Edwardsville High School, jumped to two first-place finishes in the high jump and the long jump. His height of 7 feet, 1 inch in the high jump established an SIUE record.
His mark of 25-11.5 in the long jump is currently the best jump in NCAA Division I.
“Julian’s performance this weeend is another example of the hard work and dedication Julian possesses,” SIUE interim coach Scott Block said. “He is a great example for the rest of the team.”
SIUE track and field will compete in the Joey Haines Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
