McKendree golfer earns regional bid

McKendree University sophomore Keenai Sampson (Collinsville) has received a bid to compete in the Central/Midwest Regional for the 2016 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The event will be held May 2-4 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Sampson collected one of the four individual bids allotted in the regional based on performance during the 2015-16 season among players whose teams did not qualify for regional competition. In all, a total of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes will take part in eight regional tournaments across the country.

The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the 2016 NCAA Men's Golf Championships May 17-21 at Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colo.

Sampson is the second McKendree men's golfer in the last three seasons to receive an individual regional bid.
