LU-Belleville signs two skaters for men’s hockey program

Lindenwood University-Belleville men’s ice hockey program and head coach Lindsay Middlebrookannounced the signings of forwards Matthew Janke and Britton Whitehead for the 2016-17 season.

Janke is the brother of current Lynx forward Brandon Janke. The Huntsville, Ontario native joins the Lynx from the Almaguin Spartans of the Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL) where he posted 21 goals and 25 assists in 40 regular season games then seven goals and five assists in 19 postseason games. Prior to joining the Spartans, he recorded 7 goals and 17 assists for the Bracebridge Blues and Rama Aces during the 2014-15 season.

Whitehead played two seasons with the Almaguin Spartans of the Greater Metro Hockey League (GMHL). An assistant-captain for the Spartans, Whitehead had 70 points with 26 goals and 44 assists in the regular season.

“We’re excited to add Matt and Britton to the team,” Middlebrook said. “Both are strong two-way forwards and will bring a lot of versatility to the lineup.”

The two forwards join the Lynx for the third season in program history. The team has a combined 60-7-1 record and reached the 2016 ACHA National Championship Tournament in the team’s first season of postseason eligibility.
