Eight home games and a trip to Colorado highlight the 2016 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s soccer schedule.
“I made the schedule with preparation for the grind of the Ohio Valley Conference in mind,” said SIUE head coach Derek Burton. “A mix of styles of play we’ll face at home and on the road will get us ready to compete in conference and continue to provide our student-athletes with an amazing competitive experience.”
The season opener is scheduled for Aug. 12 at Western Illinois with the home opener on Aug. 19 at Korte Stadium. The home opener is part of a double header to follow the men’s match against Dayton at 6 p.m.
The home nonconference schedule also features Kansas State (Aug. 21) and UIC (Sept. 2).

SIUE travels to road contests for the rest of the nonconference schedule, including the trip to Colorado for two matches Aug. 26 and Aug. 28 to face Denver and Colorado State. The match will be the first meeting between SIUE and Denver as well as the second meeting between SIUE and Colorado State. The last meeting against Colorado State was in 2013 at a tournament in North Dakota which resulted in a tie.
The Cougars complete a three-game road trip at Iowa (Sept. 4), Saint Louis (Sept. 11) and Missouri State (Sept. 16) before beginning Ohio Valley Conference play.
“Our nonconference games will challenge us highlighted by Iowa and Kansas State,” said Burton. “It’s a great opportunity to be able to bring a Big 12 team to Korte.”
The OVC season opens up with two straight home games Sept. 23 and 25 against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri, respectively.
The Cougars also play host to Austin Peay (Oct. 14), Murray State (Oct. 16) and Eastern Illinois (Oct. 27).
SIUE travels to five away OVC matches beginning with Belmont Sept. 30. The Cougars also will travel to Jacksonville State (Oct. 2), Morehead State (Oct. 6), Tennessee Tech (Oct. 21) and Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 23).
The OVC Tournament is scheduled to begin Oct. 30 at host sites and continues November 4 and 6 at the home site of the regular season champions.
“We are looking forward to continuing our regional rivalries this fall,” said Burton. “We also are excited to get out of the region again, this year with our trip to the beautiful state of Colorado.”
