McKendree anglers do well in first bass fishing meet of year
The McKendree University bass fishing team official took to the water for the first time in 2016-17 at the FLW Central Conference qualifier in Prairie Du Chien, Wis.
The Bearcats had two teams place in the top 20 of the 85-team event that consisted of programs from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Kansas, South Dakota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. In all, just 24 of the 85 teams caught their five-fish limit for the day.
Senior Phillip Germagliotti (Highland) and sophomore Shane Campbell (Highland) brought home the Bearcats' best finish of the tournament. The duo placed 13th overall, reaching their five-fish limit with a total weight of 11 pounds, one ounce. With their performance, Germagliotti and Campbell qualified for the 2017 FLW National Championship. Sophomores Taylor Schmitt (Lebanon) and Brad Wyss ended their day with four fish weighing in at six pounds, 11 ounces to grab 36th place.
Up next for McKendree is the Bassmaster National Championship that will be held July 28-30 on Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Ky. The Bearcats have qualified three boats for the national tournament.
