McKendree’s Porter to wrestle in France
McKendree University women’s wrestling standout Alexis Porter is headed to Macon, France to compete in the United World Wrestling (UWW) Junior World Championships.
“I’m excited to go to Europe” Said Porter. “This is a great opportunity to travel and represent my country. It is also very exciting to be competing at this level right after the Olympics too. I am hoping to come back from this trip with a medal as this is a small stepping stone to my end goal of being a 2020 Olympic gold medalist.”
Coming off a 26-7 season Alexis is looking to continue on with her success. Last season she was a Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) All-American at 155 lbs. During the Junior World Championships, she will be wrestling at 67 kg. Porter will redshirt this upcoming season (2016-2017).
“She (Alexis) is an extremely talented wrestler who has bought into McKendree University wrestling” Said McKendree women’s wrestling coach Sam Schmitz. “Heading into her junior year she has one more shot to win a junior world title (as she ages out of this age class) before moving to compete at the senior level.”
