Here is a look at the remaining metro-east teams in the Class 1A and Class 2A girls high school volleyball playoffs:

Class 2A Pinckneyville Sectional

Teams: Red Bud (15-18-3) vs. Edwards County (29-8); Althoff (19-12) vs. Hamilton County (23-9)

Championship: 6 p.m. Thursday at Pinckneyville

Analysis: Defending sectional champion Althoff should be a tough out here, but the Crusaders have to be playing at their best to advance. Coach Sara Dietrich has 99 career wins and will try to pick up No. 100 in the sectional semifinal. The Crusaders’ balanced attack is fueled by Miami (Ohio) setter recruit Louise Comerford (9.3 assists per game, 112 kills, 51 aces, 35 blocks), senior Emily Myatt (184 kills, 31 blocks), Addie Burris (148 kills), Karinna Gall (117 kills, 36 blocks), Katie Wemhoener (93 kills) and Katie Allard (374 digs). Hamilton County captured its first volleyball regional title in 10 years by defeating Du Quoin in three sets. Ramsey Clark, Kaleigh Dodson and Katherine Drone are among the top players for the Foxes. Three-set victories over Chester and Gibault got Red Bud into the sectional and the Musketeers hope the hot streak continues. The Musketeers like to feed Morgan Cowell (402 kills, 28 blocks, 487 digs, 30 aces) for kills and hope for the best. Sophie Richards (130 kills, 42 blocks), Mackenzie Schweizer (66 kills), Sydney Schweizer (604 digs) and setters Makenzie Harbaugh (5.1 assists per game, 30 aces) and Kelly Barnfield (3.9 assists per game) are among the top players.

Class 1A Crab Orchard Sectional

Teams: Valmeyer (20-14) vs. Cobden (22-12); Norris City-Omaha-Enfield (25-6) vs. Gallatin County

Championship: 6 p.m. Thursday at Crab Orchard

Analysis: Valmeyer has made deep volleyball playoff runs before and this could the Pirates’ year for another one. They knocked off Steeleville and Thompsonville to win their own regional, which earned them a trip to deep southern Illinois for the sectional semifinals against Cobden. Valmeyer’s top players include Jordyn Killy (231 kills, 62 blocks), Sam Seidel (171 kills), Blair Brady (113 kills, 61 blocks, 3.4 assists per game) and Savannah Williams (97 kills, 38 aces, 316 digs), Guin Kohnz (4.9 assists per game) and Cierra Goldschmidt (383 digs). Awaiting Valmeyer are the Cobden Appleknockers.

Class 1A Lebanon Sectional

Teams: Clay City (28-1) vs. Metro-East Lutheran (11-22-1); Woodlawn (26-6) vs. South Central (20-8)

Championship: 6 p.m. Thursday at Lebanon

Analysis: Metro-East Lutheran has lost twice as many games as it has won, but the Knights play a competitive schedule and will be looking to make some noise at this sectional. Lydia Flaherty holds most of the ME Lutheran school records for assists and is averaging 7.1 per game while recording 38 service aces. Among the other top players for the Knights are Courtney Fenelon (181 kills), Danielle Timmermann (131 kills, 42 aces, 396 digs) and Ashlee Robinson (114 kills, 64 blocks, 37 aces). Midland Trail Conference champ Clay City’s only loss is to sectional qualifier South Central.
